CO2 emissions from USA based combustion power plants (boilers and gas turbines) of at least 20 MWe unit capacity declined 36% over the past 20 years to 1.6B short tons in 2020 (Image 1), while CO2 emissions per MWh delivered to the grid (for this fleet) declined 30% (Image 2). 2021 year-to-date, the trend has reversed: short tons are up 10% driving CO2 per MWh up 5%.
