USA Simple Cycle Fleet by Original Operating Date
Of the 2,121 simple cycle gas turbine units operating in the USA at year end of 2021 (unit capacity of at least 20 MWe, the Fleet), 693 or 31% began originally operating before 1990. The image nearby shows the original operating date dispersion among the Fleet.

We estimate that these “older” 693 units generated less than 10% of the Fleet’s gross load from 3Q’21 thru 2Q’22.
